A customer portal is not a service-report email, and an on-the-way text is not online booking. This page records what six vendor help and marketing pages published about those six communication claims as of 2026-09-17. No ranked winner. We have not tested these apps.
Scout brief (2026-09-17): Primary pages only. Skimmer help documents a web portal, photo Service Emails, and paid or included Service Texts (On My Way, completed, skipped). Pool Brain help documents a portal, auto proof-of-service emails, and an On The Way SMS with a minutes ETA. POM marketing documents branded email/text reports, an invoice portal via Biller Genie, and scheduled reminder ETAs; it does not publish a Jobber-style booking form. Paythepoolman home and features document Pool Junction ($25/mo), proof-of-service emails, invoice texts, and on-the-way push. Poolside home HTML claims branded service reports and text ETAs;
/featuresand/pricingare a client-rendered SPA and returned the same marketing shell. Jobber help documents client hub and online booking. Jobber two-way-text and fieldworker help timed out or hit Cloudflare after the first booking-article load; marketing booking and pricing HTML were not retrieved today.
What customer communication means here
Verified fact: Help pages beat marketing copy when they conflict. “Not claimed” means the cited page does not make the claim. It is not proof the feature is absent.
Client hub / customer portal. A login (or emailed magic link) where the homeowner views history, invoices, quotes, or payments. A contact form that creates a lead is not that.
Customer app. A branded app the homeowner installs. A technician field app is not that. A mobile-friendly portal is a portal.
Service report emails / SMS. A visit summary sent after the stop: readings, checklist, photos, or notes. An invoice text is a bill, not a service report.
Text ETAs / arrival notifications. A message that the tech is coming, with a window or a minutes count. A day-before reminder is not the same as a mid-route On My Way tap.
Online booking / self-scheduling. The customer picks an open slot (or submits a bookable form) without the office assigning the stop. Office-created quotes that “book the job” are not that.
Branded / photo service reports. A customer-facing report that can carry the company mark and on-site photos. Internal notes the client cannot see are not that.
Units stay on the solo-operator guide, the small-team guide, and the pricing guide. Chemistry stays on the chemical tracking guide. GPS stays on the GPS tracking guide. Category cards: /best/customer-communication.
Editorial judgment: Buy the channel you will run after every stop. A portal that stores history will not replace an On My Way text you promised on the sales call.
Published claims (2026-09-17)
Verified fact: Help, features, and pricing pages checked 2026-09-17. Empty or “not claimed” cells are unpublished on those pages, not guessed. Jobber two-way-text help and pricing HTML were blocked or timed out on this fetch.

Product notes
Skimmer. Features list a Customer Portal (history, invoices, quotes, one-click pay), Service Emails, and Service Texts. Marketing also says “real-time texts for upcoming stops, completed jobs, or skips” and photo evidence on email reports. Portal help (updated 2026-08-12) is a web login: invoices, payments, AutoPay (Stripe), service history with photos, quote approve/reject, and a Contact Us URL that creates a new customer for the office to schedule. That form is intake, not self-scheduling. Service Texts help (updated 2026-09-03) names three toggles: On My Way (tech tap), Completed Service, Skipped Stop. Getting Started: $0.029 per text. Scaling Up and Enterprise: included. The same article still mentions an older “Owning the Market” tier in one sentence. Pricing lists Customer Portal and Service Reports and Emails on Getting Started; Unlimited Service Texts on Scaling Up. FAQ (updated 2026-08-25): photos on reports must be taken live in the app, not from the camera roll.
Pool Brain. Features advertise a Customer Portal (past jobs and route stops) and Proof of Service Emails with labeled pictures and 1-click feedback. Portal jobs help (2026-06-24) shows completed/closed/no-access records: date, tech, start time (not end), readings, chemicals added, photos if those photos are shared on the email. The portal overview adds quotes, invoice pay, AutoPay, Contact Us, and multi-property switch. Customers register with the billing email; no invite. Email template help (2025-11-03): emails send after app data, including photos, syncs. Tags cover chem, photos, and work items. On The Way help (2025-09-13): SMS only, rotating numbers, tech picks minutes; the line “Your technician will be arriving in about (X) minutes” always prefixes the office template. Online booking is unpublished. Pricing still leads with all features at $65 per active field technician. The slider starts at 5 techs. This page does not invent a solo monthly total.
POM. The reporting page claims email or text reports with captured data, photos, and notes, plus a branded report builder (logo FAQ). The how-it-works block then says the owner gets the report by email. Ask which send path you will run. Scheduling repeats those reports and, in FAQ, automatic text or email reminders with date and estimated arrival in advance. That is a reminder window, not a mid-route On My Way tap. Free trial adds a customer portal to view invoices and set up autopay, and “Send text updates to customers” on the mobile-app list. Invoice page names the portal as a Biller Genie partnership: historic invoices, cards on file, autopay. Treat that as a payment portal unless POM shows service history there. Home mentions emailed post-service reports and appointment reminders. Customer self-scheduling is unpublished. Pricing on the free-trial page: $125 first user, $25 each additional; unlimited photos and emails.
Paythepoolman. Home and features describe Pool Junction as a branded customer app: balance, invoices, bids, service history, messages, in-app pay. Home: customers download it free; the shop pays $25/mo for the whole company. Home also claims push when you are on the way, when a bid is ready, and when an invoice posts. Features add proof-of-service emails with an optional tip button, before-and-after video on logs, map images as proof of service, invoice texts with a pay link, and mass email/text/push. Text credits are an add-on; overdue reminders and repair texts are listed as free. Online booking and a web portal (apart from the app) are unpublished. Plus dollars stay unpublished.
Poolside. Home (HTML fetched 2026-09-17) prints “Branded service reports, text ETAs, and a full history for every pool.” A guided-service screenshot is alt-labeled “asking to text the customer an ETA.” The tech-app list includes before and after photos. The alerts mock includes a “Failed Message” when a customer text did not send. The quote flow says send a quote, book the job, invoice, and collect payment. That booking sentence is office workflow, not a customer booking form. Customer portal, customer app, and online self-scheduling are unpublished. /features and /pricing are a client-rendered SPA; curl returned the same marketing shell as home. Communication plan gates are unpublished on that HTML.
Jobber. Client hub marketing and client hub help (updated 2026-08-11) describe a mobile-friendly web hub: request work, approve quotes, view past and next-five appointments, pay invoices, Wallet, Contact Us, referrals on select plans. Access is email/text link, not a password. Online booking help (updated 2026-07-08) splits request forms (office schedules) from assessment booking and job booking (customer picks availability). Availability: “select plans.” A later refetch of that URL hit Cloudflare; the 2026-07-08 text is from the first successful load. Connect help (updated 2026-08-13) lists Requests & Online booking and automated emails/texts, including appointment reminders. Two-way-text help and the fieldworker “on my way” article timed out after search. Do not treat two-way SMS or a live on-my-way tap as verified on this fetch. A branded pool service-report email is unpublished. Pricing HTML was not retrieved today.
Fit notes (not a ranking)
These are operating-model notes against the table. Seed profiles are linked.
Need the homeowner to log in. Skimmer and Pool Brain publish a service-history portal. Jobber publishes client hub. POM publishes an invoice/autopay portal via Biller Genie. Paythepoolman publishes an installable app, not a web portal. Poolside: not claimed.
Need a branded customer app. Paythepoolman names Pool Junction at $25/mo. The other five do not publish a homeowner App Store listing on the cited pages.
Need a photo report after every clean. Skimmer Service Emails, Pool Brain proof-of-service emails, and POM branded reports are the explicit visit-report claims. Paythepoolman proof-of-service emails, map images, and video sit next to the Junction app. Poolside claims branded reports without naming the send channel. Jobber sends quote/invoice/reminder traffic, not a chem-and-photo door hanger.
Need a mid-route arrival text. Pool Brain help documents minutes on an On The Way SMS. Skimmer help documents an On My Way tap without a minutes field. Paythepoolman home documents on-the-way push through Junction. POM FAQ documents advance reminder ETAs. Poolside home documents text ETAs. Jobber Connect documents automated reminders; live on-my-way was not re-fetched.
Need the customer to pick the slot. Jobber help is the only cited self-scheduling form (assessment or job booking, select plans). Skimmer’s portal contact form creates a customer for the office. Pool Brain, POM, Paythepoolman, and Poolside do not publish customer self-scheduling on the cited pages.
Seat versus location math: Jobber vs Skimmer. Location versus technician: Skimmer vs Pool Brain. Base-plus-tech versus location: Paythepoolman vs Skimmer. Technician-and-customer-cap versus location: Poolside vs Skimmer.
Questions before you sign
- On my plan, which of the six claims are in writing: portal, customer app, visit report, arrival text, self-scheduling, photo/branded report?
- Is the arrival message a day-before reminder, a tech On My Way tap, a minutes ETA, or a push in an app the customer must install?
- For Skimmer: are Service Texts on Getting Started at $0.029, or included on Scaling Up, and does the Service Email include photos on my photo cap?
- For Pool Brain: what appears on the proof-of-service email versus the portal, and who may edit the On The Way template?
- For POM: is the portal Biller Genie invoices only, and do reports go by email, SMS, or both on my account?
- For Paythepoolman: is Junction required for on-the-way push, and what does a text credit cost this month?
- For Poolside: what file is the branded report, how does the text ETA send, and is there a customer login?
- For Jobber: am I on a plan that includes online booking and automated texts, and am I buying a visit report I have not seen in help?
- For every product: can the customer reply, and who sees that reply?
What we are not claiming
We have not sat in a homeowner inbox. We are not naming a winner. We are not treating a missing claim as proof a feature is absent. We are not inventing Skimmer self-scheduling or a Pool Brain booking form. We are not treating POM’s Biller Genie portal as a service-history hub. We are not inventing a Paythepoolman Plus price or a Poolside portal. We are not asserting Jobber Core includes booking, two-way SMS, or a live on-my-way tap. Jobber pricing HTML and two-way-text help were not retrieved on 2026-09-17.
Ask for the six claims in writing on your plan, then send one test portal login, one visit report, and one arrival text on the same stop. One-person shops: solo-operator guide. 2–5 techs: small-team guide. Units: pricing guide. Chemistry: chemical tracking guide. Routes: route optimization guide. GPS: GPS tracking guide. $0 models: free software guide. Sync: QuickBooks guide. Category list: /best/customer-communication.
