A one-click optimizer is not a planning map, and live progress on a map is not continuous GPS. This page records what vendor help and pricing pages published about those claims as of 2026-09-05. No ranked winner. We have not tested these apps.
What route optimization means here
Verified fact: Help pages beat marketing copy when they conflict. “Not claimed” means the cited page does not make the claim. It is not proof the feature is absent.
Optimizer. Reorder stops for driving time or driving distance. Some pages also name start and end points.
Builder. Assign stops to techs, put them on a calendar, drag-and-drop. That is a schedule, not an optimizer.
Planning map. Lines or pins used to see or edit a route. Map images sent as proof of service are not that.
GPS. Live vehicle or technician location, speed alerts, or historical GPS records. A status chip (Not Started, In Progress) is progress tracking.
Turn-by-turn. Opening Google or Apple Maps from a stop is navigation, not fleet GPS and not the optimizer.
This page is for an operator who needs a published optimizer, a GPS claim, or both, and wants the plan gate in writing. Units stay on the solo-operator guide, the small-team guide, and the pricing guide. Chemistry stays on the chemical tracking guide. Category cards: /best/route-optimization.
Editorial judgment: Buy the claim you will run every morning. A cheaper plan that only assigns stops will not reorder a 30-stop day.
Published claims (2026-09-05)
Verified fact: Help and pricing pages checked 2026-09-05. Empty or “not claimed” cells are unpublished on those pages, not guessed.

Plan gates, published limits, and GPS
Skimmer. Web help documents Route Builder for assigning a tech and day, then Optimize Route with Start From and End At. That optimize step “will only optimize up to 25 routes per route assignment, and is only available for Scaling Up and Skimmer for Enterprise accounts.” App help repeats the Google Maps 25-stop limit: start and end, plus 25 locations; more than 25 yields a note that Google Maps will only optimize the first 25. Pricing matches the gate: Route Builder on Getting Started, Route Optimization on Scaling Up. Do not read the route dashboard as continuous GPS fleet track.
Pool Brain. Optimizing routes uses Google’s API. The Optimize Route button appears only when 3 or more properties are on the route. Custom start and end (office or tech home) are optional and are not shown to the tech as stops. In the app, optimize starts from the technician’s current physical location. A locked route blocks tech reorder and app optimize. The 2020 routing update documents job status indicators on the route list and embedded Google map: Not Started, In Progress, Completed, and No Access. Continuous live vehicle GPS is undocumented. Pricing still leads with all features at $65 per active field technician. This page does not invent a solo monthly total the calculator did not render.
POM. The route-software page claims Route Optimization “Powered by Google Route Optimizer,” plus a map view and drag-and-drop between techs and days. The free-trial page claims live GPS tracking and historical records. Pricing is $125 first user, $25 each additional, QuickBooks +$25/mo. That page still prints “$500 Activation Fee to get started - WAIVED UNTIL 2/15/26.” That waiver date is past. We do not say the fee is waived, and we do not say it is charged. No separate route upsell tier is published there.
Paythepoolman. Features and home claim One-Click Optimizations plus GPS tracking, speed alerts, and map proof images. Home also lists assign, transfer, and sick-route moves. Optimizer algorithm, API, and stop cap are undocumented. Do not invent those mechanics. Plus is named for Orenda and LaMotte, not for route or GPS. Plus dollars are unpublished.
Jobber. New Schedule help documents anytime-visit optimize by driving distance (not straight-line), Connect/Grow/Plus, web-only admin (the app reflects the new order), up to 7 days, and a supplementary map with directional lines. Only anytime visits (no scheduled start or end time) are optimized. Start and end are set by keeping the first or last appointment. GPS splits waypoints (clock in/out, notes, completed visit) from FleetSharp live GPS (speed, direction, fuel). This page does not assert which Jobber plan bundles FleetSharp. Pricing for monthly “Just me” on 2026-09-05: Core $49, Connect $139, Grow $199, Plus $499. Core: optimizer not claimed.
Fit notes (not a ranking)
These are operating-model notes against the table. Seed profiles are linked.
Cheap plan, builder only. Skimmer Getting Started has Route Builder and no published optimizer. Jobber Core has no optimizer claim. If you need a one-click reorder, those cheap seats do not publish it.
Recurring route with a 25-stop day. Skimmer help caps Optimize Route at 25 stops on Scaling Up and Enterprise. A longer day needs a split, a manual reorder, or a different product. Pool Brain’s published floor is the opposite problem: the button hides until 3 properties exist.
Reorder from the truck. Pool Brain’s app can optimize from the tech’s current GPS unless the office locked the route. Skimmer’s app optimize is documented with start/end and the same 25-stop Google Maps cap. Jobber help says optimize is web-only for admins.
Live GPS as the buying reason. POM’s free-trial page and Paythepoolman’s features page claim live GPS (POM also claims historical records; Paythepoolman claims speed alerts and map proof). Skimmer and Pool Brain do not publish continuous fleet GPS on the cited pages. Jobber publishes waypoints in-product and FleetSharp as a live-GPS path. Ask which of those two you are buying.
Anytime visits, not timed stops. Jobber’s published optimizer reorders untimed visits. Timed appointments are outside that help article. Seat math stays on Jobber vs Skimmer. Location versus technician meters: Skimmer vs Pool Brain. Base-plus-tech versus location: Paythepoolman vs Skimmer. Technician-and-customer-cap versus location: Poolside vs Skimmer.
Questions before you sign
- On my plan, which claims are in writing: builder, optimizer, planning map, GPS, progress-only?
- If I stay on the cheapest plan, does the optimizer move up a tier?
- For Skimmer: am I on Scaling Up, and what happens on stop 26?
- For Pool Brain: does the button show at my stop count, and is the route locked?
- For POM: is Google Route Optimizer on my account, and is live GPS the same plan as the map?
- For Paythepoolman: what does One-Click Optimizations actually reorder, and is GPS on the base product?
- For Jobber: are my stops anytime visits, and am I on Connect or above?
- For every product: can I set start and end, and what happens when a tech calls out mid-day?
What we are not claiming
We have not run these products on a live route. We are not naming a winner. We are not treating a missing claim as proof a feature is absent. We are not inventing Skimmer continuous GPS from a progress dashboard. We are not publishing a Pool Brain solo monthly total. We are not treating POM’s 2/15/26 activation-fee waiver as current. We are not inventing a Paythepoolman optimizer API, stop cap, or Plus gate for route or GPS. We are not asserting Jobber FleetSharp packaging beyond the GPS feature page.
Ask for the optimizer limit, the GPS definition, and the plan name in writing, then trial a reorder and a mid-day move on the same morning. One-person shops: solo-operator guide. 2–5 techs: small-team guide. Units: pricing guide. Chemistry: chemical tracking guide. $0 models: free software guide. Sync: QuickBooks guide. Category list: /best/route-optimization.
