Best Pool Service Software for Solo Operators

What a one-person pool route should compare in software: pricing unit, chemistry documentation, billing, and offline field work. Cited from vendor pages as of 2026-09-21. No ranked winner.

By PoolProStack editorial team · Updated September 21, 2026

A one-person route is buying a billing unit, not a feature list. This page does not rank a winner; figures below are published list prices checked 2026-09-21, and we have not tested these apps.

The retired category URL /best/solo-operator 301s here. Other /best/* lists stay. A 2–5 technician shop belongs on the small-team guide. Forever-free caps belong on the free software guide.

What a solo operator actually needs

Route building and last-minute changes. You need a stop order you can edit from the truck, not a dispatcher wall built for a 10-tech office.

Chemistry logs and proof of service. Readings, dosages, photos, and a customer-facing report are different claims. LSI calculators, meter integrations, and portal visibility are not interchangeable.

Invoicing, AutoPay, and QuickBooks. The subscription is only part of the admin cost. Payment processing and whether QuickBooks sync is one-way or two-way change the hours after the route.

Offline mobile work. A field-work claim is not a proof that photos, invoices, and signatures all work without signal. Ask for the scope in writing.

Public pricing, as published (2026-09-21)

Verified fact: These are the public list prices we could confirm on 2026-09-21. Units differ (location, property, user, technician, seat). Do not compare the dollar figures as if they buy the same thing.

Product Public price (solo-relevant) Pricing unit Trial / entry
Skimmer Getting Started $49/mo including 49 serviced locations, then $1/mo per extra location. Scaling Up $98/mo including 49, then $2/mo per extra location. Serviced location / month, not per visit Scaling Up first month free plus a 30-day risk-free guarantee. Promo can change.
Pool Brain $65 per active field technician only. Public picker starts at 5. Unlimited office users stated. Do not publish $65 as a 1-tech total. Active field technician Trial CTA on pricing. Length and card-on-file terms not stated on that fetch.
Pool Office Manager $125/mo first active user; $25/mo each additional user. QuickBooks Online +$25/mo. Active user Metadata: 30-day free trial, no card. Activation-fee language not present on this fetch. Status is a GAP.
Paythepoolman $50/mo + $15/mo per tech = $65/mo at 1 technician. Add-ons and card processing extra. Base + per technician 30-day trial. No activation fee on the current page.
Pool Service Software (PSS) FAQ: free plan for 10 clients or fewer. Dive In $49.99/mo for 11–50 properties; Ripple Effect $99/mo for 51–100; Wave Maker $0.95/property/mo for 101+. Property / client count Free ≤10 clients is not a trial.
Pool Founder Solo $49/mo up to 1 technician. Technician 30-day free trial, no credit card.
Poolside Starter $29.99/mo (1 tech, ≤50 customers). Growth $59.99/mo. Pro $99.99/mo. Flat tier (technician cap + customer cap) 50% off first month is not a free trial.
Jobber Core 1-user $49 / $39 / $29 (no-commit / 1-year monthly / billed annually). Extra user $29/mo. Seat 14-day Grow trial, no card. Grow is the trial plan, not the Core floor.

Editorial judgment: A 10-client shop may care most that PSS names a free ≤10-client plan. A larger one-person route should model which meter grows: location, property, user, technician, or seat. Do not treat $49 vs $125 as like-for-like.

Pricing traps to calculate before signing

Do not equate billing units. Skimmer bills serviced locations. PSS bills property/client bands. Pool Founder and Pool Brain bill technicians (Pool Brain without a 1-tech checkout). POM bills active users. Paythepoolman bills a base plus per technician. Poolside bills a tech-and-customer-cap tier. Jobber bills a seat, with the commitment printed next to the dollar.

Jobber commitment sits beside the dollar. $49 is no-commit. $39 is 1-year monthly. $29 is billed annually. A 14-day Grow trial is not Core.

Add-ons and processing sit on top. Pool Brain’s fee schedule (updated 2026-08-17) lists card 3.2% + $0.25, ACH 1% + $0.25 (max $15), and Pool Brain Payments $20/mo. Those are separate from the $65/tech software unit. Paythepoolman add-ons and card processing are extra. POM QBO is +$25/mo.

Activation. Paythepoolman shows no activation fee on the current page. POM’s fetched pricing HTML does not print the old $500 activation-fee line. We do not invent whether POM charges an activation fee. Status is a GAP. Confirm in writing.

Promo is not the floor. Skimmer Scaling Up first month free can change. Poolside 50% off first month is not a free trial. PSS Free is a ≤10-client cap, not a trial.

Trial and migration. Confirm what you can export if you leave. Trial length is not a data-exit guarantee.

Shortlist by operating model (not a ranking)

These are fit notes against published pricing and documented features. They are not awards.

Very small client list

PSS is the only product here that explicitly advertises a free plan for 10 clients or fewer (PSS FAQ). Paid bands start at $49.99/mo for 11–50 properties (PSS signup). Free is not a trial.

When you want a named solo plan with no per-pool fee

Pool Founder publishes Solo at $49/mo for up to one technician and a 30-day trial with no card (Pool Founder pricing). We have not tested the workflows on that page.

When per-location pricing is acceptable

Skimmer Getting Started is $49/mo with 49 serviced locations included (Skimmer pricing). Billing is serviced location per month. Offline is a field-work claim: the technician app is documented as working without signal and syncing after reconnect. That is not a proof that every photo, invoice, and signature path works offline. QBO help says paid transactions reflect in QBO. That is not two-way. Scaling Up first month free plus the 30-day risk-free line are promos and can change.

When per-technician pricing might beat per-location at your count

Pool Brain documents routing, invoices/payments, and QBO two-way on features and help (Pool Brain features, QBO help). Public pricing locks $65/tech only. The picker starts at 5. We are not publishing $65 as a 1-tech total. Payment fees on the Aug 17 2026 schedule sit on top of that software unit. Trial length and card terms are a GAP on the pricing fetch. Get a written quote.

Seasonal pool-service and repair shops

POM prices at $125/mo for the first active user and $25/mo per additional user, with QBO +$25/mo (POM pricing). Metadata on that fetch: 30-day free trial, no card. The old $500 activation-fee language is not present on the current fetch. We do not invent fee status. Confirm in writing.

Paythepoolman (homepage calculator)

The Paythepoolman homepage calculator shows $50 + $15/tech, or $65 at one technician. 30-day trial. No activation fee on the current page. Add-ons and card processing are extra. QuickBooks remains unresolved on that homepage.

Poolside

Poolside pricing (2026-09-21): Starter $29.99 (1 tech, ≤50 customers), Growth $59.99, Pro $99.99. 50% off first month is not a free trial. Chemical readings are claimed. LSI, QBO, and processor percentage are a GAP on the primary page.

Jobber (seat meter, not a pool-native spec)

Live Jobber pricing: Core 1-user $49 / $39 / $29 (no-commit / 1-year monthly / billed annually). Extra user $29/mo. Trial is 14 days on Grow, no card. The pool-industry page was blocked on this fetch, so this page does not re-lock pool chemistry claims from that URL.

Questions to ask on a trial call

  1. For my pool count, what is the all-in monthly price including locations/properties, users, texts, and payment processing?
  2. Which chemistry steps work offline: readings, photos, dosages, customer reports?
  3. Is QuickBooks sync two-way for customers, invoices, and payments, or paid-transactions-only?
  4. What happens to my data if I cancel?
  5. For POM: is any activation charge in writing, or is that line still unpublished?
  6. For Pool Brain: what is the monthly software total for one active field technician, and are the Aug 17 2026 payment fees on top of that?
  7. For Jobber: which commitment is the quoted Core dollar (no-commit, 1-year, or annual), and is the trial still Grow?

What we are not claiming

We have not run these products on a live route. We are not recommending a single product. We are not publishing a Pool Brain 1-tech checkout total. We are not treating $65/tech as that total. We are not inventing POM activation-fee status. We are not treating Poolside 50% off as a free trial. We are not treating PSS Free as a trial. We are not re-locking Jobber pool chemistry from a blocked industry page. We do not earn commissions from these vendors.

Other directory listings remain on the directory. A 2–5 technician shop should use the small-team guide. Sync direction: QuickBooks guide. Location vs technician: Skimmer vs Pool Brain. Seat vs location: Jobber vs Skimmer.
